TL;DR A notional widespread interconnected digital world.
The singularly independent virtual computer worlds which may be interconnected over computer networks to form severally interdependent notional environments in which users may engage in social, economic experiences to name a few. Examples include internet, blockchain, metaverse, social networks
Cyberspace was initially envisioned as democratic, open groups of interconnected autonomous digital worlds where people of every ethnicity, race, faith, skills, power and point of view can own, express, control and cooperate together in an independent, balanced manner to prosper in a cyberspace. In this Ideology, values generated by the network are compounded to the players (creators) & users (consumers) who are towards edges of the cyberspace network
Today's version of Cyberspace, its ideology & the technologies that enable it are an intentional confirmation bias favouring the world view of selective and powerful central corporations. Their world view reflects in their cyberspace design principles.
Today's cyberspace design is rigged to centrally concentrate economic benefits and power by orchestrating, influencing the behaviour of the network & its users. Rules of their world displace the collective economic value generated by the edges of network (i.e. players & users) to a handful of central corporations. Even though the edges realize being served peanuts in return, there is no alternate paths worth exploring to survive in cyberspace
Central corporations, at all costs contest for dominance of their world view over all of cyberspace by pushing anti-competitive, influential and biased principles in the design of overall cyberspace. If they win over, their dominance will enable them to manufacture self serving outcomes from cyberspace at the cost of larger prosperity, become powerful enough to construct cyberspace as one thing rather than another, influence trends, value and success. Over time, they end up depriving or fighting against their own users over choice, diversity, balance, openness and democracy in cyberspace to retain their control.
Because of lack of promising alternate worlds, the players & users without a choice or unintentionally have succumb to the narrow interests and undue fears of the central entities thereby limiting the prosperity and progress both individually and as a humanity collectively.
It is of no interest but rather a conflict of interest (read business model) for central corporations to work towards fixing today's cyberspace as it means giving up the power they accumulated over decades. For limitless progress of humanity, it is of paramount importance to research alternative designs for cyberspace keeping above challenges in mind i.e. shifting the concentration of power from central corporations by proportionately distributing it across the network. Having said that, such a redesign and further implementations are highly complex and no one company can entirely be responsible for that. We truly believe community will be the way Open Cyberspace gets built and flourishes.
Cyberspace is grown to and will continue grow to include different players. These players may be independent entities, central corporations, small, medium enterprises to name few. Each of these players may have their own world's view or interests that may be adverse to each other in a Cyberspace. Yet each of them will continue to push for their vision or version of the cyber world.
We believe our design for the cyberspace has to be open, liberating / limitless to all players, be inclusive of all their interests, views and enable an equal or balanced opportunity to express or pursue their version of the world while protecting interests of other worlds and cyberspace as a whole. This is important to achieving "Choice" and "Free market" through comprehensive and diverse outcomes from a cyberspace.
Gandhi, "You must be the change you want to see in the world."
John F Kennedy, "One person can make a difference, and everyone should try"
Along those lines, we are initiating our movement towards an #OPENCYBERSPACE. We will be contributing our initial draft of open cyberspace design and lay the foundation rails, roads infrastructure & public utilities to enable communities effortlessly create their version of a sovereign cyber world and interconnect with larger open cyberspace.
The initial draft design of Open cyberspace network & further foundation infrastructure implementations accommodates all of above ideology and more [Blog coming soon] by bringing together and combining several key philosophical, social, economic and engineering principles in a manner that has not been attempted before. Watch out for this space.
